What is Giving Tuesday?

A group of happy children of boys and girls run in the Park on the grass on a Sunny summer day . The concept of ethnic friendship, peace, kindness, childhood.

If you support or follow a nonprofit organization, chances are that you may see a number of emails or advertisements for Giving Tuesday today. You may be wondering what Giving Tuesday is and how it supports organizations like Palmer Home.

Giving Tuesday takes place each year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the midst of the holiday season. While it may be the season of joy, most nonprofit organizations rely heavily on donations to support their holiday endeavors, and yet as we prepare for the holidays, giving to those in need can sometimes be overshadowed by our planning and preparations.

Giving Tuesday campaigns first took place in 2012 and were designed as a way to help nonprofit organizations like Palmer Home connect with donors who make their mission possible during the holidays. We hope you’ll consider making a donation to Palmer Home this Giving Tuesday to help support our children and families.

How Giving Tuesday Benefits Palmer Home

Behind every number is a real child, a real family, and a real story of life-changing transformation. Beyond these major milestones, there are much quieter, yet equally impactful moments happening each day at Palmer Home.

Without your support, we would not be able to provide campus care for dozens of children in need of a safe and structured home, foster care to children who are in need of a loving home and a sense of belonging, family care to infants of mothers who are currently in prison and unable to provide the care they desperately wish they could for their children at this time, and transitional care to young adults who are in need of support and encouragement as they transition from foster care or campus care into adult life.

Without our help, many of these children would lack opportunities, social support, stability, or a safe and loving environment. Statistics show that children who lack early support for these necessary resources have lower rates of graduation, lower rates of college attendance, higher rates of teen pregnancy, and lower rates of job retention

We meet these families and children where they are, in order to provide the necessary support to help them grow, thrive, and reach their fullest potential. We even have a team of educators and experts who are actively working to understand the relationship between early trauma and adverse adult experiences so that we can learn how to best equip the children and families in our care with the tools they need to thrive at home, in school, and at work – both now and in the future.
