Friends of Palmer Home will celebrate all things SEC football inside the Olivia and Archie Manning Athletics Performance Center on the beautiful University of Mississippi campus. Guests will enjoy a variety of football games on the big screens, mouth-watering tailgate treats provided by Oxford’s best restaurants and caterers and all the benefits of Grove-style tailgating with none of the hassle. Trauma Sensitive Care Training

November 8 or 9 at 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Trauma Sensitive Care training is required of all staff and volunteers of Palmer Home for Children; however, local social workers, teachers, tutors, counselors, church and community volunteers, foster families, and any others who engage with at-risk children and families are invited to attend.

This course is designed to increase awareness and understanding regarding the impact of trauma and chronic stress, as well as how to engage vulnerable children effectively and respond to their needs in helpful, sensitive ways.

This ONE DAY training is offered on Friday, November 8 and Saturday, November 9 from 8:30 am -4:00 pm each day at Longview Point Baptist Church in Hernando, MS. When registering, please select the RSVP that indicates your preferred date of attendance.

Specific objectives include increasing participants’ ability to:

1. Define and understand trauma and attachment.

2. Identify developmental alterations caused by trauma and compromised attachment; specifically, the impact on overall child development, including brain, body, belief and behavior.

3. Develop restorative environments characterized by Felt-Safety, Connection and Support in order to increase capacity for resilience in vulnerable children.

4. Enhance ability to recognize trauma related reactions and employ responsive strategies to help children feel safe and supported in healing relationships with trustworthy adults.

*Lunch and light snacks are provided. Please let organizer know of any physical or nutritional needs that may exist.
