Mississippi’s Other Favorite Bowl Game

There are few traditions in the state of Mississippi as cherished as the yearly battle on the football field between the University of Mississippi and Mississippi State University in what is commonly known as the Egg Bowl.  It’s a rivalry that has been around for decades.  Families across the state will gather together for the usual turkey and pumpkin pie, and then settle down later in the weekend to see whether the Rebels or the Bulldogs walk away with the coveted Egg Bowl trophy.

If you’re already making your predictions, we’ve got great news for you!  For the second year in a row, the Palmer Bowl is running alongside of the traditional rivalry, giving you a chance to be sure your team leads in at least one way this Thanksgiving!

In the weeks leading up to the Egg Bowl, Palmer Home’s text-to-give campaign, #PalmerBowl, allows individuals to text REBS or DAWGS to 91999 in support of their team.  Once you send the text, you’ll receive instructions guiding you through making a donation to Palmer Home, which will add to the tally of support on behalf of your team.  After the Egg Bowl champion has the trophy in hand, we’ll announce which team’s supporters have given the most to Make Lives Whole.  For those lucky enough to attend the game, keep an eye on the Jumbotron to catch our video, made possible by our amazing Palmer Partners and #PalmerBowl sponsors, Edmondson Farm & SMP Southeast Marketing.

At Palmer Home, perhaps like your own home, we’re a house divided on this issue.  Our Hernando campus is just an hour away from Oxford, and enjoys a great relationship with the coaches and students there.  We recently hosted our Tailgate for Palmer event at Ole Miss’s Vaught-Hemmingway Stadium, and our children have had sneak peeks at football practices and training camps.  On the other hand, our Columbus campus is just half an hour from Starkville, and is treated to frequent visits from the MSU Veterinary school and several sororities and fraternities.  Our Treblemakers choir has even had the privilege of singing the national anthem at several MSU sporting events, including the Women’s Basketball NCAA Championship, hosted at the Humphrey Coliseum.

So whether your cowbell rings true cheering for your Dawgs, or you’re decked out in red and blue for the Rebels, remember that fans like you can make a difference this holiday season.  Even the smallest donation to Palmer Home during the #PalmerBowl helps provide safety and security for young people in need.  MSU supporters can rest assured knowing that their dollars support programs like the Treblemakers choir, and Rebel fans can know that your generosity inspires a new generation of scholars and athletes.
