Sky Lake Construction Helps Palmer Home Raise More than $100k at Mudbug Bash
On Saturday, April 17th, Palmer Home hosted our 17th annual Mudbug Bash, and the party was different than any other from seasons’ past.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Mudbug Bash was an in-person evening event. That traditional format wasn’t possible in 2020, so last year’s event was strictly to-go (imagine a crawfish drive-thru!). This year, our team dreamed up a creative hybrid concept: for two hours, Panola Street transformed into a street fair atmosphere with live music, local vendors and other awesome attractions, and the crawfish party was served to-go. Individuals and families of all ages enjoyed the fun on Panola Street and learned more about Palmer Home’s mission to care for vulnerable children. A designated area for ticketholders allowed those who’d purchased meals to pick up their crawfish party so they could create their own bash at home.
“We certainly wanted to host an event that was COVID-conscious,” says Ainsley Hightower, Palmer Home’s Manager of Community Engagement and Event Strategy. “We served the meals to-go, planned a shorter, outdoor-only event and prayed for good weather, but incorporated some fun in-person elements like live music, street vendors and a wine pull.”
And it was a success: altogether we raised $101,915.38 for the children at Palmer Home!
None of this would have been possible without our amazing partners Sky Lake Construction. A family-owned homebuilder based in Nesbit, Mississippi, Sky Lake Construction has been a top sponsor of Mudbug Bash for three years in a row.
In addition to sponsoring Mudbug Bash, Sky Lake Construction also supports Palmer Home in other ways. When a child first comes to the Palmer Home campus, they receive their very own bike. Sky Lake Construction graciously donated several bikes for the children last Christmas. They have also allowed Palmer Home to auction off the naming rights to streets in their developments, which has been a unique and memorable fundraiser for our mission.
We are so grateful to Sky Lake Construction, and all our incredible partners, whose support ensures that Palmer Home can continue to say ‘yes’ to children and families who need our help. If you’re interested in partnering with us for future events, please email development@palmerhome.org.
