Good Morning America
COLUMBUS, Mississippi, August 31, 2012 — Palmer Home for Children will be featured on ABC’s Good Morning America in their “Unclaimed Money” segment scheduled to air Labor Day, this Monday, September 3, 2012 during the second hour of the broadcast at 8:40 AM.
The Mississippi State Treasury Department and Good Morning America notified Palmer Home in April that a previously assigned stock gift, currently classified as unclaimed property, was scheduled for release. On July 25, 2012 State Treasurer, Lynn Fitch, presented a check to Palmer Home President & CEO, Drake Bassett, representing the cash value of the stock for an undisclosed amount that was revealed at the presentation.
Good Morning America correspondent, Elizabeth Leamy, and the production team, began the day by joining the children and staff for breakfast. They completed their day with interviews and a full tour of the campus to capture the Palmer Home story and mission. Many Palmer Home supporters were on hand for the State Treasurer’s presentation, including Columbus Mayor Robert Smith, Chief of Police Selvain McQueen, Palmer Home board members and alumni, and representatives from local businesses.
“It was a great day all around”, stated Mr. Bassett, “and we are grateful for the State Treasurer’s initiative to distribute these unclaimed funds, and pleased that Good Morning America took the time to tell our larger story.”
