Christmas Visitors at Palmer Home

December 7, 2017

December may be Santa’s busiest time of year, but he’s not too busy for a stop by Palmer Home for Children! With help from Security Holdings, Santa plans a stop by the Columbus campus on December 8 to deliver gifts to the children of Palmer Home. Santa, along with his elves, a.k.a. a few Security Holdings employees, will of course enjoy sharing cookies with the children in the dining hall.

Santa’s visit is just one exciting part of a busy holiday season at Palmer Home’s Columbus campus. On December 6, Laurie Parker made a visit to the Palmer School. A writer and artist from Starkville, Mississippi, Laurie has practiced the art of collage since childhood. She combined her artistic skills with her ability to write in metered rhyme to create a line of children’s books including Everywhere in Mississippi that have charmed children and parents alike.

Parker branched out to authoring novels in 2013 after writing twelve rhyming children’s books. In 2014, Parker’s work was recognized by the Mississippi State Committee of the National Museum for Women in the Arts. Her books are available for purchase on Amazon.

During Parker’s visit, she toured The Bettye Edmondson Library, which opened at the Palmer School in August.  The library was made possible by the generosity of Tim and Stephanie Edmondson, who dedicated it to the memory of Bettye Edmondson. Stephanie helped connect Parker with Palmer Home, and was present for the visit, which included a reading of Parker’s book It Really Said Christmas, to the delight of students at the Palmer School.

Palmer Partners like Security Holdings and the Edmondsons allow Palmer Home for Children to restore the lives of hurting children. Whether it’s fostering a love of reading through a library and author visit, or spreading Christmas cheer through purchasing gifts and bringing Santa himself make the delivery, these companies and their employees are changing lives.
