Palmer Home’s Family Care: A Christian Commitment to Family Preservation

June 16, 2024

Palmer Home’s Family Care model offers a compassionate, wraparound support system, especially for mothers and children. We recognize that birth families often face overwhelming obstacles such as poverty, addiction, or incarceration, but our goal is to help them navigate these challenges with dignity and grace. Our approach includes:

  • Housing and career support: Our team works closely with incarcerated mothers to accomplish their academic and career goals and to find stable, secure employment and housing after their release for the benefit of both mom and her children.
  • Parenting classes: Offering education to equip parents with the tools they need to create a stable, nurturing environment.
  • Counseling services: Providing emotional and mental health support for mothers, helping them to heal from trauma and break unhealthy cycles.
  • Spiritual guidance: Rooted in Christian values, we help families draw strength from their faith and build resilience through prayer, Bible study, and a close-knit community of believers.

For mothers, particularly those involved in foster care for infants or coming from prison ministries such as our women’s prison ministry in Nashville, ongoing support is essential. We journey with them from incarceration or recovery back into the role of caregiver, helping them rebuild their lives while focusing on the well-being of their children.

Support for Moms: A Lifeline for the Future

One of the cornerstones of our Family Care program is providing continued support for mothers—especially those who have been involved in the foster care system or are transitioning out of prison. Through partnerships in Tennessee and Mississippi, including foster care programs for infants, we create opportunities for women to reunite with their children while receiving resources that help them regain independence.

Our women’s prison ministry in Nashville is just one example of how we empower mothers. By offering them a lifeline through spiritual mentorship, life skills training, and community connections, we help moms re-enter society equipped to care for their children, break the cycle of incarceration, and establish lasting stability.

Success Stories: Healing and Reuniting Families

Palmer Home’s Family Care program has been the source of many inspiring success stories. One such story involves a mother who, after struggling with substance abuse, found hope through our program. With ongoing counseling and spiritual support, she turned her life around, regained custody of her children, and is now thriving as a full-time caregiver.

In another case, a mother transitioning from the women’s prison ministry in Nashville was able to reunite with her infant after completing a rehabilitation program. Through Palmer Home’s foster care for infants, we provided a safe, nurturing home for the child while the mother prepared for reunification. Today, the mother is living independently, caring for her child, and remains connected to our support system as she continues to build her new life.

Foster Care and Family Support Across Mississippi and Tennessee

Palmer Home serves families not only through our Family Care program but also through broader foster care initiatives. Our foster care programs in Mississippi and Tennessee provide a temporary but loving home for infants and children who are waiting to reunite with their birth families. We believe that every child deserves a stable family, and we work tirelessly to provide that security—whether through foster care or through supporting birth families in their journey toward reunification.

At Palmer Home for Children, our mission is clear: to provide hope, healing, and restoration to children and families in need. Through our Christian approach to family preservation, we ensure that birth families receive the support they need to stay together, break destructive cycles, and offer their children a future full of promise.

We invite you to join us in this vital work. Your donations, prayers, and support make a difference in the lives of families who are finding their way back to one another. Together, we can continue to witness the power of grace, faith, and love in action.
