Position Summary

Reporting to the Campus Director, this position is responsible for assisting campus staff with daily responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Be available to all cottages, in order to help transport children to appointments, school, and other activities.
  • Will periodically be required to reside on campus for overnight stays in cottage in order to watch over children assigned.
  • Be available to serve in cottages when needed for relief, vacations or emergencies.
  • Ensure each child’s basic physical needs are met while in the cottage: adequate nutrition, a clean sanitary home environment; appropriate clothing; healthy amounts of physical exercise; and doctor visits as needed.
  • In cooperation with the other houseparents and facilities staff, help maintain the campus living environment.
  • Whole Child certification and continued training.
  • Flexible schedule that will require working some nights and weekends.
  • May be asked to work in office occasionally if office employees are out.
  • May be asked to drive kids to and from home visits or out of town appointments.
  • Provide scheduled breaks for houseparents by providing supervision and support to youth while houseparents are out of the home or unavailable.
  • Provide supervision and transportation during monthly Parent Night Out and scheduled date nights in each cottage
  • Communicate pertinent events/aspects of a youth’s case with all team members on an ongoing basis.
  • Attend weekly meetings with Director and team to plan respite care dates and needs.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with children and those engaged in the life of the child.
  • Provide accurate and insightful feedback to the social services staff working with each child.
  • Assist in the implementation of care plans for children.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Married Couple or Single person that is in agreement with the Palmer Home for Children Statement of Christian Beliefs and demonstrate a strong commitment to Christ consistent with the mission of Palmer Home status as a non-profit religious organization.
  • Willing to work in a close-knit community that works together as a team.
  • Prior experience parenting or working with children.
  • Able and willing to work in homes of either gender and any age group.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Must legally be able to work in the United States and pass a criminal background check.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Must be physically able to meet the basic needs of children under care.
  • English language proficiency required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Must demonstrate flexibility and understanding due to unforeseen circumstances and multiple roles required in daily activity.
  • Must be qualified, capable, and willing to serve as a role model and mentor to children in care in accordance with Palmer’s core mission.
