Human Resources Assistant

Position Summary

Reporting to the Human Resources Director, this position will support Palmer Home employees and performing traditional human resources generalist tasks.

Location: May work from home or office space located in Columbus, MS


  • Provide administrative human resources support to Palmer Home’s 60+ employees
  • Serve as a point of contact for internal and external customers
  • Point of contact for ADP 3rd party payroll, benefits, onboarding, performance management and ensuring accurate information is provided on time
  • Posting job ads and organizing resumes and job applications
  • Scheduling job interviews, processing applications and assisting in interview process
  • Processing new-hire onboarding packets and tax information
  • Ensuring background and reference checks are completed
  • Employee record maintenance
  • Reconcile and update monthly billing census information for all benefit plans, ensure accuracy and process
  • Point person for employee engagement initiatives and from time to time partner with other segments of the organization to plan and coordinate company related functions
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the HR Director


  • 2 years of verifiable experience in Human Resource Administration or similar role
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field of study strongly preferred
  • Highly detail oriented
  • General knowledge of payroll processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (PP, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Confident in ability to communicate with all levels of professionals verbally and in written form
  • Ability to work independently as well as contribute successfully in a team environment when requested
  • Present a positive disposition and willingness to “go the extra mile” to complete assigned tasks
  • Must be in agreement with the Palmer Home for Children Statement of Christian Beliefs and demonstrate a strong commitment to Christ consistent to the mission of Palmer Home status as a non-profit religious organization
