Partnering with Birth Families

Seeing the Dignity of the Children and Families We Serve

As a social worker, I strive to adhere to a code of ethics that allows me to consider the dignity and worth of a person and the importance of human relationships. Sometimes the most important relationship is the one between a child and their birth family.

True love can come in many different forms, such as making a decision that will ensure the welfare of a child.

The Birth Family’s Story Matters Too

At Palmer Home, we consider the birth family’s perspective a strength. When children are placed in our care, we acknowledge the bravery and courage it took for these families to place their children with Palmer Home.

We aim to come alongside our birth families by providing support, being a link to resources, acknowledging their rights, including them in permanent placement and so much more.

The Importance of Partnering with Birth Families in Foster Care

Having a robust social work staff at Palmer Home is one way we are able to strengthen our partnership with birth families.

Partnering with birth families, with the goal of reunification, is what we always strive for. But we are not oblivious to the fact that this may not be possible for every child and their family. We hold ourselves accountable to these standards so we can provide superior care to each child.

Restoration and Reunification

As a faith-based organization, we pride ourselves on our efforts to provide the love of God, not only to the children in our care, but also to their birth families. There is a beauty in the ability to deny oneself and put the well-being of another person first. By honoring the dignity and worth of a person and understanding the importance of human relationships, we can eliminate barriers and foster a true partnership.
